Electronic ignitions for Jota's

OK - whilst I'm trying to sort out my electrical gremlins I'm contemplating buying an electronic ignition - did buy a new DMC units a few years ago but never fitted it and sold it on :-( - what sytems are available here in the UK? - what parts do they replace? - what bits come with them (i.e. wiring, upgraded alternator, coils etc) and what costs? - I heard John in Australia stopped making the IIS - is that correct? - also I'm still selling the bike when finished and understand I wont get my money back but it may be better to spend money on a new system rather than replace older parts.

Its a 1979 series 1 with BTZ

Thanks again in advance

Rob

I think you very well may get your money back when selling a 79 Jota Rob.
Keith Nairn can set you up with a new ignition and big alternator coversion made by Redax in Australia. Then there are new ignitions from Witt, Sachse and Ignitech I believe, if you just want the ignition and not the alternator.

Sorry - what I meant was that I dont think I will increase the value of the bike by the ?500+ the ignition system will cost.

Rob,
We have the following units in stock that are modelled on the IIS conversion.
Can also buy them direct from either Keith or Volker Sachse via his website.
System is made up of a Sachse Hall Effect ignition, 9 pre-programmed ignition curves and a 3 phase 320 watt alternator package.

Lovely job Red........it's great to see quality being produced vs the penny pinched high street products that are so abundant these days.

Cheers Pete

If I would have a Bosch triple (MK1), I would use Red's system to be honest. Witt still offers just the box and an upgrade to 150 watt. You still have to live with 35+ years old pickups and cables, which are known to cause issues.

On the MK2 Triples, I would love to gamble around with the Ignitech. Still waiting for the pickup-plate and rotor to be available from my source though...  ;)

My 2 cents: i think you will. It's much easier to sell a really well running bike with sensible updates than a fully original one with electrical gremlins in.

Ok decided to buy the Sachse kit from Keith with the upgraded 320W alternator - kit comes complete with new Coils (and bracket), leads, plug Caps and NGK plugs and doesn't cost the ?720 thats listed on the website  :D - I will let you know how I get on with it.

Now that you told us, I am sure it will cost you more!

I always discuss prices and discounts - if I get a discount I dont see why other members shouldnt - and it wasnt a discount at all - the old price was for for the older system  :P ;)
