Anybody offhand know the dimensions of the oil drain plug on a Jota engine - need a new copper washer before i let the oil out ?

If you're lucky still to have the original 14mm thread drain plug then it will be a 14.25 x 23 x 1mm Cu washer.

Unlike steel alloys, for which the cooling rate is important during heat treatment, you don't need to quench copper at all to anneal it. It will anneal just fine if air cooled. It's the high temperature that does the annealing with copper, not the cooling rate. The main reason for quenching is so you don't burn their fingers when you pick it up.

Well there you go, learn something new every day. I've always quenched copper washers after heating them because......I always have! Stuart

S'true that.  The only reason that it's usually better to quench copper rather than cooling it slowly is that it stops the surface building an oxide layer - which is brittle and bits can crack off it.

really you guys are nuts, drop the oil and screw the plug back in, ive never annealed the copper washer and its never leaked
