Flush out

Back in the days rebuilding the odd blown up Volkswagen aircooled engine, whe usually just binned the oil coolers straight away, at least if only slightest sign of debris from the engine collapse was found in the oil. They were known for being impossible to be flushed properly. It was a different design though, having oil inlet and outlet at the same end, so it might work better on the Laverda coolers. If it's about oil slugde in there, I would recommend to fill it with diesel fuel and let it work over night. Much better solvent on oil sludges than gasoline from my experience.

Regards,
Stefan

Kero or white spirits soak over night and then compressed air is what we use on oil coolers and intercoolers

At work when Hondas were puking transmissions left and right they came out with two different flushing machines to clear the crap out of the trans coolers. The first was using hot detergent/water pushed through with compressed air and it worked well. Later they came out with a machine that pumped hot trans fluid through the cooler and then through a couple of oil filters. The idea is that oil dissolving solvents will clear the oil but leave behind the particulate matter that hangs around in the little nooks and crannys. The hot detergent and/or hot oil holds the stuff in suspension and dissolves the clumps then carries it out with the flow. I clean my Ducati cooler with hot soapy water in a bucket with a windshield washer pump providing pressure. Works really well and smells fresh as a daisy when it's done!
