Was researching the Laverda fork oil from the Workshop Manual SHF 150 (what is that ??) 240ml

found this

So SHF150 is SAE 40
the 150 seems to reference the Centistokes

In the owners manual for the 1000 it says "Total Equivis 10" 200ml which seems to be SAE 10

If you put SAE 40 in your forks, you'd be rapidly draining it back out again to restore damping action! ATF (automatic gearbox transmission fluid) was sometimes mentioned as an alternative.  A quick Google suggests the SHF reference may be a type of hydraulic oil....
My preference is to use a fluid that is intended for motorcycle fork use...readily available and hopefully designed for the job.  In the past I've sometimes blended a 7.5 weight oil, but I reckon my conventional forks must now be sufficiently worn for 10 weight to work fine.
