OK,...... also as a relative newbie to Laverda and going through the search function posts on this subject.

Can someone please explain to me the 1 or 2 seal set up/history for Marzocchi front forks.......just looking to keep an original setup if possible.....1980 Jota.

Thanks again.

Steve,

To minimise stiction, you can omit one seal per leg.  Just need a spacer to occupy the free space, an old seal with the lip removed does nicely.  Otherwise, just replace both of them.  As there is a dust cover over the whole caboodle, a seal with dust lip isn't really needed either (unless you want to omit the dust caps).

Both Ceriani and Marzocchi chose to fit 2 seals/leg, no really apparent reason why, as most other manufacturers get away with a single seal in similar designs.

I haven't noticed much difference between super-slippery type seals and normal generic ones.  Reckon stanchion condition and fit of guide bushes will have more influence than the type/brand of seal.

Many thanks Piet,

for explaining this to me,i have only come across single seal forks before so 2 seals fitted is a new one for me.

i will look to order some up.

It was always my understanding that in that time frame the Italians used two seals because the seals were made for sealing rotating shafts, not sliding shafts. Could be an old wives' tale. I've always only used a single to replace a dual. As Steve notes, an old seal with the lip removed works great.
