I have the boots or legs off the Ceriani forks from an sf. Rods slide out about a foot but do not come out as they are hung on bushings I guess.. Ok how do you get the rods out? Do you work it out like a slide hammer? Evan

I just had mine apart (3CL) as one leg was longer than the other. The short leg made a horrible clunk when extended. Turns out the damper  guide at the top of the damper rod  was seized against the fork lower, the small retaining circlip had migrated down the damper rod. Used a heat gun and a heavy  rod to pound it out.
I took the stanchion to my local machine shop who told me it was oval inside. At potentially 43 years old I've ordered a new set.

I think there's some confusion. Have you already got the alloy lowers (sliders) off the chromed for legs? And need to get the damper assembly out of the legs?

I think so Quentin. The other problem is that the alloy part above the big circlip that holds the rebound damping valves in place can be stuck in the stanchion. If the pistons themselves are seized the forks won't work, the sliders won't slide.
