Hello Guys,

has anyone fitted a funnel type gasket in their tank?..........does it replace the seal already fitted on the fuel cap lid?, with both fitted the fuel cap is extremely hard to open.......so i am wondering whether i only require one. ::)

Thoughts please,thanks

Steve

Yes and No.

Yes I have it and No, removing the gasket is not enough. On my Jota (1000 type tank), it leaked without the second gasket... You get used to press the cover down as much as possible before pushing the open-button...

I assume we are talking about this here (taken from www.laverda-paradies.de):

Yes that's the one I have just fitted it and it looks to be a good product,i managed to close the cap then had a real struggle trying to open it again.

Using the search facility it seems there are a lot of issues around leakage,i hope mine doesn't add to that list......i will persevere with it and see what happens.

thanks for replying

My first non-lockable fuel cap could easily accommodate the Laverda-Paradies anti-surge funnel.
After that cap got stolen I replaced it with a lockable one that seemed a lot tighter, the new one cannot cope with even the thinnest anti-surge funnel and is very tight to get closed and worse trying to undo.

Funny thing is, without the funnel the new cap doesn't leak one drip.

So there are differences on the various caps.

Had a funnel in the tank when I bought my s2 Jota with a non lockable cap. I found the funnel floating in the tank one day refitted it but kept getting dislodged eventually took it out never to return, I keep an eye on the condition of the cap seal and as long as I don't brim it when filling, I've never really have a problem with leakage.

I guess in my case i am preempting having an issue before one occurs as i haven't run a full tank or even fueled the bike up yet :D......that pleasure I hope to be doing tomorrow  (thumbup)

I am sure the issue will show itself soon enough if it is going to happen.......and i will be watching closely.

Thanks for the tips guys all very helpfull (thumbup)

My Jota had one of those funnels in it when I bought it. The cap was very hard to close, and leaked like a bastard. I replaced it with a new rubber gasket and no leakage.  Seems the funnel thing is not a sensible solution to a leaky cap. Not sure what the hell it's supposed to do.

There wasn't one in the tank when I bought mine new in '76 and it was easy to open and close and didn't leak. The old cap was rusty when I refurbed the bike and so I fitted a new SS cap, leaked like a sieve so thought I would fit an anti-surge funnel thingy. Leaked worse and was an absolute bastard to close and even worse to open.

Ended up going with all cf parts with an aero cap on the tank so don't care now.

I suffer with the original cap that wants to leak on occasions - As long as I don't shake her up too much to a create a bomb over the battery under my arse.
