Gtl seat .

Hi all... I've just purchased a Kuwait police spec gtl of a member of  this forum..I'm  very please with the  purchase but I've run into a problem trying to get a normal seat  to fit...I was told the frames were the  same as an sf..so I eventually found a seat for an sf in the states. .but it's to short  by 50mm..I've since found out that the gt has a longer seat. ..but I'm cautious to spend another ?200 odd pounds to find that doesn't fit also ...what I need is clarification on what fits what..I live in the gloucestershire area does any one live near by with an sf/ gt so I can take some  measurements. ..Help

I thought the GTL seat was hinged and the GT ad SF seats were bolted in place.
The GT seat is indeed longer than the SF seat as the GT tank is shorter.
Not sure how the GTL tank compares.

You're  correct road going  versions were hinged. .because mine is a police spec it had a single seat with a rack..and I would like to  put a  duel seat on...

So, does it still have hinges fitted?
As the GTL layout is quite unique (only Breganze 750 with a hinged seat) what is left, or do you just want to bolt a seat on?
Bear in mind the bolt on seat requires 2 lugs (hook points welded to the frame) for the front of the seat. It only bolts on at the rear.

bolts on the same  as sf..Two prongs  at the front welded to the frame.. with bolts  either side at the rear just in front of indicator brackets  just like sf..

My problem is this. ....do i change  fuel tank an side panels  to sf spec. ..or find a seat  50mm longer than a  standard  sf because  sf seat  it to short. ..has anyone got any of these options. ..

GTLs actually used GTL-type frames. :D  Quite a few subtle differences regarding air filter housing, side panel and seat mounts.

The GTL dual seat is unique and won't easily fit any of the other models.  It is longer due to the tank being shorter, the shape of the seat nose doesn't really fit the normal SF tank.  Most ex-Kuwait Police models had single seats, a few had normal SF2 seats fitted bodged on.

I might be convinced to part with a bare seat pan, but it is only of use if the latch prong and hinges are still on the frame.

Piet, since the seat needs to be longer is it similar to the early SF's like mine where the tank has the knee pads? I had the same problem with a SF1/2 seat fitted which left a pretty good gap to help remove lower body parts  :o

This might also be a case for Boba to make you a seat base Bodge

Not really.  The S/early SF tank is about the same length as the later SF/1/2/3 tank.  The GTL tank actually has the same shape as the SF1 tank at the front, the top and rear are "cut off"  behind the filler at an angle, shortening the tank by about 50mm/2".  Moves the rider forward quite a bit for a very comfortable seating position with higher bars and stock pegs (which are too far forward with the SF1> tank).  Rear of the seat works out to about where the SF etc seat ends.

May I ask who boba is and where he is ..because  getting a  bespoke seat made seems  the most sensible solution. ..rather than changing tank an side panels. ..there's a  gt seat  in Italy for sale..but I don't know  if it will fit. .

Boba is a regular here and the 'King of Carbon Creativity'.
