Headlamp installation 180 mm

I am trying to install the headlamp on my 3C and it is proving to be a bit of a bugger. It is a 180 headlamp but it is the pop on - pop off type (the Green Book refers to the 160 mm as being this type whilst the 180 and 200 have a cross screw clamp).

The problem is that if I hook the top of the chrome ring in place then when I try to push in the headlamp shell rotates inwards and I am unable to get the bottom to latch. I have tried to put something behind the headlamp but it seems like I may dent the shell from the force. I have tried numerous ways to tuck all the wires out of the way but it does not seem that that is what is holding up ....... it almost seems the upper catch is sticking out too much and preventing the ring from seating in place. I don't want to start beating the catch inwards yet ..... but if no joy then I may have to tweak it a wee bit.

Any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated.

Finally got it ..... used a combination of English, Spanish and ..... then inspired by Paul ...... a few French cuss words and VOILA ...... the dirty rotten bugger snapped together!

I think carefully sorting out the wires and placing them as best I could away from the rear centre of the shell may have helped as well.

they are a royal pain in the ass Jim, the  200mm light on my 3c is so easy to deal with but the 180 on my 3cl sucks, and it is not very secure. You'll get it eventually. I see you got it

Try cutting 3 x's 1" strips of 1/4" soft rubber tubing and place them as a tirade buffer between the Chrome retaining ring and the Head light Glass.

Worked for me and stopped the Head light from rattling itself to death.

Have you checked the headlight still works? All that birds nest adjusting can dislodge connections...it aint done til the fat lady sings...dont ask me how i know ,as they say😁

I'm trying to figure out a security clip for the bottom to make sure it doesn't pop apart at some point.

If your headlamp is like mine you will have a tiny opening on the bottom of the chrome rim and the mating latch opening when closed.
You can feed a very tiny tie rap through both openings and secure the assembly.

I thought about that ...... just AFTER I got it snapped shut. Not sure how I will get it looped through now without popping it open again .... DOH.

In my experience if they are clipped in home and sitting correct then they dont pop off and we do do some rough roads  :P
Ensure that the top and the side need to be seated in the little lips and when you at the bottom home you get a little security "click"
yes the 200mm with the retainer screw at the bottom easier but still need to sort the birds nest.
someone remind me why I kept the standard multiple spade connector  :o would have been oh so much easier with a couple of multi mini connector blocks in there.  :-X

WTF is a tirade buffer? Sounds like something to provide protection against someone yelling abuse at you (perhaps when you're pituded) in which case you'd be better off putting the bits of rubber in your ears.  :D

I got the click and all looks well and all the appropriate electric circuits are still functional. I certainly did think that a more modern connector would be a beautiful thing. I may take that path when it comes time for the Formula Mirage .....
