Hi

I could do with a bit of help wiring up the above system to a 750 twin, The pick-up has been attached to the stator plate and fitted in place in the primary case, the three wires coming from there (black, brown and yellow ) have the plug attached and now connected up into the DMC box.

Four wires exit the box, black which I have connected to earth plus red, white and grey, now comes the problem I have fitted a Dyna dual output coil which only has two terminals so the red and white are connected to these which leaves the grey, can anyone help me    with where it goes ?

Easy peasy this one.

As you are on a 0? parallel twin with a wasted spark, the white and grey (i.e. coil negs) are both doing exactly the same thing. The grey wire can have it's bare end sealed off and tied away, ready for future use if you go back to twin coils.

I guess I'm stating the obvious here, but to be clear, the red wire is a power supply to the DMC, so needs to be connected to a +12V supply from the ignition key switch.
It only connects to the coil in the sense that the coil also needs a power supply, so the same take-off from the ignition switch can be used.

Hi Cam

I wonder if you could elaborate on your reply in words that an electrical numpty like me can understand.

The only red wire I have comes from the DMC unit to the positive side of the dual output coil, are you saying that I need to take a connection from that and run it to a positive supply ?

Joe

Yes. Both the DMC unit and the coil (or coils) need to get power from somewhere. That's the red wire on the DMC box, and the positive spade terminals on the coil. The negative spade terminal on the coil goes back to the DMC. That's the one that gets the timed signal to fire the coil.

The 12V power supply has to come from the switched side of the ignition switch (not the battery side) so it switches off when you turn the key to the off position.

It's quite normal for the wiring to go from the ignition switch to the coil positive terminal, then from that same coil positive to the DMC. That's the only reason you see the red DMC wire connected to the coil. It's only there because that's where the 12V supply is. It could just as easily take its supply from somewhere else and still work OK.
