How to iD forks

Gang.
I've got a set of 42mm (not 41.7) forks which i am assuming are Marzocchi on my Moto Martin.
While i haven't been able to get a positive ID on the frame age yet we are thinking 1978 ish.
The forks have no external markings or adjustments other than two screws on the front face just above the axle for draining oil.
I can put a photo up if needed but wouldn't ming a positive iD on them before sending them away to have gold valve emulators fitted.
Any tips welcome.

What are you sending them away for? Fitting emulators is not that hard a task. If I can do it anyone can.

Just got an email back from Walter at YSS and he said its not as straight forward as it could be (with my forks) and I'm better off sending them.
He's going to give my shock the on e over as well and decide if its worth trying to improve or go with a new one.
The forks will get a full rebuild while they are there.

G'day Louis

If you're planning on making it eligible for Period 5 historic racing, 41mm is the max fork diameter allowable.

The rule actually states:

16.5.4.2 Period forks:
a) Forks of a type manufactured in the
period up to a maximum diameter of
41mm,
b) Forks which replicate the type
manufactured in the period up to a
maximum diameter of 41mm.

Not too sure the scrutes will notice Cam, and there are allowances if the units were at least 'available' in the period. Just a matter then of getting your logbook signed off as a modification.

Good idea to send to Walter LB.. give him all info on weight (bike and rider in full kit etc.), and he'll set it up for you. Best to run over the job once back though, easing emulators in their slots etc. for easy removal at trackside.. Walter tends to make them as though you will always totally dismantle for adjustments.

He has done brilliant things for my Montjuic.. highly recommend he is allowed to do his job.

The only 42.0mm I previously knew of was Forcelle Italia as on my RGA.  It's a prick of a size!  I wouldn't worry about the eligibility thing till you're up there battling with Gilesy and co, just fudge it in the log book.  Interested to see some closer photos of the fork, try to work out what they are.

Yeah I know. Everyone says I'm taking the rule book too literally. I sent off my preliminary historic race bike construction application form (or whatever the fuck they call it) to Motorcycling Australia the other day. I specified Mikuni RS carbs just to see what the response would be. I expect they'll disallow them as they weren't available in the period. But I haven't had a response back yet.

Haven't started my log book yet. It's on the list. Thanks for the tip though Cam. Read the rules a few months back but better refresh my memory.

I know it's only August but make sure it's on your to-do list nice and early.  You don't want to be trying to speed up the creaky wheels of officialdom over the New Year break... :)
