indicator wiring-help!

chaps, I've fitted indicators to the SF2, which has badly chopped about wiring. Logic dictated a three prong indicator relay, one power feed, one to the switch and one to the repeater lamp in the speedo. Problem is, the repeater lamp is always faintly on, even when its off!. Looking at the wiring diagram there appears to be some sort of thing in line to the repeater lamp, is it a diode or resistor that stops the very faint drain back from feebly illuminating the bulb?
Any suggestions gratefully received.

A tutto gas!

Paul,

Wiring in a single warning lamp calls for a quite unorthodox wiring scheme.  Needn't worry about taking a wire from the flasher unit, just feed the 2 negative wires from your front indicators directly to the warning lamp, one each side of the lamp.  Sounds wierd but it does work!  No need for diodes, etc.  Rear indicators remain connected conventionally.

If you're using an original factory wiring diagram, the diode thing you've found is in the pilot light circuit, prevents the bike from being started when parking lights are on, or something like that........  ???

Piet, isn?t that with a 2 pin flasher relay as they came standard? Or will it work ignoring the third pin of a 3 pin type?
I use the electronic relays (2 pin) that are not sensitive to globe wattage and always flash at the correct rate.

I've noticed the indicators start with an off flash, suspect it's warming up the flashing thing, does the electronic one reverse this? I'd rather the indicator came straight on when you hit the switch then off on off on etc.

BTW I would have thought putting the dash indicator in series with the front indicators earths will reduce the brightness of the indicators considerably?

Piet, Drikko:

I think that the indicator globe goes between the two positives of the lamps, that way it receives current from the lamp that is being flashed and gets its earth via the (low resistance) filament of the other lamp. Of course this relies on the indicator being an incandescent lamp so it doesn't matter which way the current is flowing through it.

Yep that works in my mind. there'd be a small current through the non flashing bulb but not enough to light them. Sounds good!

Drikko I now have an image of a light globe lighting up inside your head!  :D

Er - not that i even know what you look like!
