jota 120 reassembly

Hi Simon,

What tyres are you running on your 120?

I'm looking for some new rubber for mine and was wondering what works for you - and other 120 owners.

Thanks

DoC!

I would NOT recommend the tyres I have got, they are probably not made any more anyway - Pirelli Matches. They are a bit hard and are OK after they have warmed up a bit.
Most people around these parts seem to swear by Bridgestone BT45's but I have no direct experience.
I will be heading to the tyre shop come the spring, probably for aforementioned BT45's or Avon Roadriders which seem to be the best of the current crop.

Grant, are you trying to get me started on an oil thread?
They usually last for weeks dem ones.

Wolfgang warned me about the 120 frames cracking so I have been keeping a closer eye on mine just found this. The white is crack test fluid the red line is the ink coming out of the crack.

It happens not only to 120 frames as it goes, one of my bikes came with some drawings for gusseting this area... shame the Corsa had cracked years before I got this drawing.

Oil me I use only Motul 3000 20W50 now after lunching a top end with another oil starting with C. We used to use Motul back in the day and never had issues still cant understand why I changed brands...on some experts advice no doubt... so now back with Motul in all of em... even the BM god forgive.. French oil in a German engine..

As for tyres good question Doc in the day we used to run Pirelli Phantoms but nowdays have been running dual compound Bridgestones.. Batlax but they are getting hard to come by... Pirelli make a new range called Sport Demon which am yet to try... anybody tried them.

BT45 Bridgestones you can't go wrong 120 deg or 180 deg have em on all 4 of my Laverda's (although haven't tested the 3C yet no motor in).
Geez that crack below the head stem is a worry I think I have the solution, I took my 120 Jota for an empty the tank twice ride on boxing day and found that annoying (frame cracking) buzz vibration dissapears about 4800RPM so simple keep tha gas on and hold her up around 5000RPM just keep your eyes in the mirror for flashing lights :-X :-X :-X :-X :-X the other little issue with the above 4800RPM is the speed the tank empties what main jets are you 120 Jota owners using in 32mm Dels, I have 60 pilots 130 main.

Thanks for the tyre info guys.

Has anyone tried the Maxxis Hi-Max tyres for a triple? Or perhaps the Avon Roadriders?

I'm a great believer of 'if you buy cheap you buy twice' but the 2 Maxxis at ?102 + ?6 delivery they look tempting ...... Mind you, they are made in China, so perhaps I've already answered my own question. :-X
