Jota Regulator replacement

I have no idea if this is relevant but here goes. John Wilson was attempting to build a better Regulator in an attempt to improve battery charging in early alternators and I was running it for a while. It proved to be a dead end as spikes would blow it out of action. Thats when he went to adapting the Kawasaki alternators. So big spikes do happen, how big and anything more technical was green smoke to me.

You're right Drikko. But I prefer the simpleton's approach. You can't go wrong if you think of V=IR applying to DC, and valid for AC only if it's a pure resistance circuit (which a coil isn't). For AC circuits with impedance my interpretation is V=IZ, with leading or lagging phase angles and all that shit. But I never be bothered getting my head around the bloody complex number mathematics. It's one of the reasons I chose mechanical engineering rather than electrical. At least with machines you can see what the fuck you're dealing with, unlike those stupid little electrons.

Anyway, a coil isn't AC or DC, so we're both wrong  ;)
