The one owner low mileage Jota in the for sale section has prompted me to ask a question which has been puzzling me for a while.

Back in the 80s, a mate of mine bought a '76 Jota - I was running a '79 Slater Mirage.

The exit diameter of the '76 Jota silencers was considerably greater than the '79 Mirage.

So, experts, when did it change?

If I look at these two photos, I ain't imagining things. Or am I?

<Edit> grant reports he can't see the picture above, so I've "borrowed" one of his recent Jota restoration as "small pipe" example.</edit>

And that low mileage, one owner jobbie is below.

OK, working on it. You, of all people, could simply take a rear quarter shot of yer restored Jota?

In fact......bear with me  :)

The standard ones were chromed steel. Then you have Keihan and Armours in stainless steel, and now you have some other biffer making exact copies of the originals.
Mine are Keihan.
No idea what the diameter of the others might be.

Different silencer manufacturer - I don't think that it's any more technical than that :D

Sigh! I try to get an interesting thread going of a Sunday evening, and you kill it dead as a flat hat.

I do try to contribute to keeping this forum stimulating. Gonna sulk off to the beer cupboard now.

The "one owner low mileage jobbie" is wearing a set of stainless steel Armours pipes.

edit; just had a look at the add linked from another post and it looks to have original fat at the front chrome Jota pipes in the pick with the grinning man and Armours pipes in the rear shot.... Bloody nice bike and quite a find at that mileage.
