Guys, new to the forum and my first ever Laverda......many others have come before!

Just picked up an SF2 project bike that is ok condition and want to build a racer.

First question I have is the front end, the bike has matching frame and engine numbers and is pretty original but it has 35mm twin disc front end? Didn't think there were any bikes with twin brakes on 35mm Ceriani's?

Cheers

Jamie

Very early SF2s had 35mm forks, these bikes still carried the SF1 DGM/homologation numbers.  Some were single disc, most got the second disc as standard.  Very rare bike, only about 100-150 built.  Would be a shame to bastardise it... :D

Should be stamped on the frame next to the chassis number.

But Jamie would still not know what was what... :D

SF1; DGM11068OM, issued Nov.28, 1972, unfortunately no mention of frame #'s
SF2; DGM12565OM, issued Nov.15, 1973, starting with frame #15651

I have DGM.11068.OM with frame number 15607 ??

Engine is stamped with the same number and SF2 at the back of the crank case.

Do I have a b*stard?

Jamie

That tallies with my first statement, designated as SF2 but still with SF1 DGM #.  I have a similar bike (#15569) which will be restored to stock spec in due time.

Hi Jamie - Be nice to keep the 35mm forks intact and fit a set of 38mm Cerianis - or even Marzocchis if the rules allowed - the triple ones will all fit - just have a length protruding through top yoke (see shot of my 750). I raced my SF with a set of M1R's on it once - was fine.

What club/ events are you planning as some jap forks could be eligible? - regards - Phil

Hi Phil - only going to do parades and nothing too serious (tried racing with the CRMC for a while and realised I was way too slow!). I think I'll just keep the 35's on the bike for now and see if anything comes up.

Your workshop looks pretty serious do you do much work on bikes?

Cheers

I really only work on my own bikes these days. The 35mm forks should be fine for the track use you envisage - we used to have to use 35mm forks (and drum brakes) in the CRMC proddy class a while back. - Regards - Phil
