Hello,I hope someone can help.
I have a circa 1960 Laverda 49cc scooter which was the one on Laverda stand at Stafford in 2000.
Having just replaced the clutch,i wanted to ask if anyone could confirm the timing mark procedure.

I have one mark on crank, one mark on cam gear and 2 sets of marks on clutch flywheel.
I have aligned them all with crank at TDC.

Sorry to be a nit but would anyone have apdf or scan in English of setting timing position for 2 speed engine.

I do have some spare gasket sets and a few odds and ends if anyone needs them plus a workable replacement speedo cable as the originals are hard to find!!.

Thanks

Hi Darren and welcome.

Afraid I don't have any knowledge of the scooters, but hopefully someone else does.

You may have to wait around for a bit before you get a reply, as scooters are a bit rare on here.  Lots of good guys though, so hopefully something will turn up  ;)

cheers

Pete

Hello Darren,

I don't know this engine but run a 100 Turismo. On this bike you line everything up but have to get the points to break at a certain point before tightening up the points cam. This is the description of how to time a 100:

'First set the gap to 0.04mm, then line up the arrow on the rotor with the
> > mark (the other line on the rotor is TDC) then move the points cam until the
> > points just start to open. You can use a battery and a bulb or a cigarette
> > paper ( very thin ) to find out when the points are starting to open. Then
> > hold the cam and do up the ignition cam nut.'

(There are two marks on the 100 flywheel magneto - one gives TDC with the outer cover on and the other TDC with it off.)

It wouldn't surprise me if your scooter had some similar kind of set up procedure.

Hope this provides some clues...

Nick :-)

I have a PDF of the scooter manual. Not much there and its all in Italian but if you want a copy Darren drop me a PM with your email address, or post it up here, and I'll send it along. I don't see any pictures that look like timing information but it might be in the text.

Have you tried looking at www.subito.it? Lots of Laverda stuff there, although the pricks running it have blocked images to non-Italian IP domains. And it's usually really hard to get sellers even to respond to inquiries from outside Italy.
