Laverda engine numbers

I think you are wrong about the rules in Norway, Clem. There is a "Stolen Motorcycle - keep your eyes peeled", FB page here and bikes are regularly returned  to their owners via this page. I doubt anyone would bother if the bike was just going to get destroyed.
When I got my SF2 back after it was stolen (after just 8 days on Norwegian roads), all they were interested in was the numberplate on it which didn?t belong to the bike. We picked up the bike ourselves, they didn?t even look at it.

I have been fed wrong information on that one then, and it was by a Norwegian living in Norway, but then again my memory could be the culprit, so I wont name him/her, I do however have an almost new RGS frame here, waiting shipment to Norway for the re-building of a stolen and then later recovered RGS that is a complete bike except the chassis has been cut into lumps that render it useless, the headstock is off (and number obliterated) the top tube and seat rails cut, and the engine sitting on two bits of lower frame loop, with the swingarm pivot cut through at an angle. I was very lucky to be able to buy a chassis without crankcases, because an Austrian  was wanting to buy the cases for use on a series 11. So one bike gone, but two come back, breaking cant be so wrong, can it? much worse to have all three bikes gone, I would say.

Bizarre why someone would do that to a frame, must have had too much aquavit or lutefisk!
Make sure you supply irrefutable paperwork to the buyer, as the beurocrats here can be as bad as anywhere. I had a shitfight getting my SF2 registered here, even when I proved that I had owned it registered in Australia for a decade before I came here. (And the dickhead wrote the DGM*****OM number with the O as a zero into the computer, wouldn?t listen to me, so that?s how it stands).

How did new replacement cases come from the factory in terms of the engine number stamping?

Virginal... bit different to the frames.  Cases were completely blank, frames would have any necessary model-specific prefixes already applied.
