Lithium

Thanks Rob, good info.
I saw one yesterday at a bike shop.
I couldn't believe how light it was. Felt about a tenth the weight of a lead acid one.
At first I thought it was a dummy display model.
It had 180 CCA but nowhere on the blurb did it give an indication of ampere hours.
It was only 95 euros too.
Think I will need a bigger one for a race 750 motor though.

The battery you've described must be Lithium Ion, probably looks like a conventional Lead acid battery.

If this helps, I ran a YTZ9BS lead acid, on my race triple for road and track use that's 8AH and 135 CCA so you would be well in with 180 CCA for starting a petrol motor.

The model number of the LI battery would be close to the Ah rating as per Lead acid types, if there is no spec I would chose another make.

It did say it was a replacement for a YTZ9BS but I had never heard of the make before, looked like some sort of generic copy. It did have a built-in button that when presses indicated the charge (3 LEDs came on).
I'll keep looking on the net and buy a higher CCA and better known make just to be on the safe side.

Would a high comp twin be harder to start than a high comp triple?

Hey Ed, I ended up buying a heavy flat rubber strap from Clark Rubber. Has a galvanised steel hook at each end and holds the battery as tight as.

Cool got any pictures. I'd like to try and use the original brackets and strap, perhaps cutting the brackets down some what.

I will also have a look at putting on side but not sure it will fit that way.

As far as chargers go, don't be fooled into buying an expensive lithium specific jobbie. Cheap and cheerful is the way to go. This is the one recommended, I actually have the same brand but even smaller.

They don't tell you the Amp.hours because it's ludicrously small. You wouldn't buy one if you knew (something like ? of a similar sized lead acid battery).

I put one in my Ducati which has a marginal starting system and it cranks it over really well. The charging system works OK, so hopefully the pitiful A.h won't be a problem.

BTW, lithium is an anti-depressant, so I'm really happy with my new battery  :D

I just put one in the Alchemy Im rebuilding.
It keeps going flat with nothing switched on.
Only thing connected directly to the battery is the regulator.
Has me puzzled at the moment.
