I use Solid Brass Nuts without springs or washers on my 750SF which are the original Laverda nuts and run oversize 2 into 1 Slater Headers and have not had issues with the nuts backing off. I assume Brass Nuts expand at operating temperature and provides a better lock. I would think if your using Steel Nuts a Copper Washer might work or use a Crimped Design Locking Nut that is the kind with out the Teflon Seal. I take care not to over torque header Nuts.
