Loosing weight

Well yes I should but I am talking those stick on wheel weights.Lately I have been loosing them off my Borrani rims. The odd thing is the glue between the rim and the weight mainly stays put, really hard to clean off so its sticking very well but not to the weight side.I am looking at using spoke type weights but they seem to be only available in 1/2 ounce size on the net. Anyone got a good source for these in differant sizes or a better way to keep the stickons holding on. On a similar subject do you get a better result going old school and using gravity or is there an advantage with Dynamic balances.

Get some clamp-on ones.  Either lead which are various weights sort of crimped on down near the nipple or else ones like I use on the ICR bike which are a screw-together split ball which you attach to the relevant spoke and slide toward or away from the rim depending on the effect required.  I static balance on the race bike - good enough for Drmsby, good enough for us. :)

Balancing spoke wheels and tyres seems to be an "inconvenience" to bike shops these days. I suppose if you are not going racing then 130Km/Hr doesn't worry too much unless the wheel ( or tyre ) is really out. I use solder wound around the spoke and done statically. BMW used to have a range of nicely finished weights that could be applied to spokes.

I use copper wire, but I like Ian's suggestion of solder - easier to get hold of. Static balancing for me.

solder is good, and buy this from a plumbing shop, but be sure to get the old "lead" solder not the "lead free" which is used for drinking water pipes, its nothing like the same weight per inch as the old stuff and both are still sold. Lead free is carried on a green plastic roll and lead type is carried on a black plastic roll. Electrical solder is much thinner and of course lighter per inch, and is unsuitable, usually due to the core of flux that it carries which might do nasty things in the wet on your Borranni's.

Hey Vince.

If you want a proper & lasting wheel balance get hold of some ball weights. They are basically a  polished ball not sure what they are made of but probably lead. They are a ball in two pieces with a groove cut into one piece for the spoke and a hole drilled through both pieces. one piece threaded. You place the two pieces around the  spoke & tighten up the cap screw? which locks the ball weight onto the spoke.
The best thing about this system is that they can be used over & over with every tyre change cause all you do is undo it & move it or them onto the spoke where they are needed to balance the wheel the next time. You can also move the ball up or down the spoke or even put two or more on the same spoke to get the perfect balance. We sell them at our shop they are $10 a pop not cheap cause you might need a couple for each wheel & also come in different weights but they are a one time only purchase.

If you can't get any down your way give me a call Bret knows how to get me & I will bring some down to the Barry. Oh also they look pretty cool too.

go to ya local fishing tackle shop, BCF, buy some lead sinkers and drill them out to suit the diameter of the spoke or nipple, then cut in line with hole using a hacksaw, pry the cut/slot apart with a flat blade screwdriver, slip over , wrap a piece of cardboard around sinker cum wheelweight to avoid getting teeth marks from pliers when closing up said spoke/nipple.

jacko.

you've probably got some sinkers in ya plano 7 tray tackle box.

I may be opening Pandora's Box here, but has anyone tried Dyna beads?  They are ceramic beads
you insert through the valve stem that balance the wheel by distributing themselves once the wheel
starts rotating?

My apologies if this topic has already been discussed.

Dunno! But my LG washing machine has got plastic balls that shunt around to balance the drum on spin.
I was going to fish them out, but finally read the manual and found out they we supposed to be there.
