M1R Fork (1000 SFC)

morning guys,

I am currently working on my M1R from my 1000 SFC. Typically, the M1R has two sliders that guide the chromed upper tube on its travel in the lower fork legs and avoids it rubs against the aloy. one is mounted at the top of the alloy body right below the oil-seals, the other one at the end of the chromed leg normally.

I seem to have an older version of the M1R which does not have the lower sliders, though the chromed tube does have a seat for it. it seems, they had two versions, as Piet when he looked into my forks internals said: "Ah - that one doesn't have the second slider yet".

Now - does someone know if these can just be added or does the lower leg have to be machined to get them fitted?!?

thanks a lot

Lothar

Measure the inner diametre of the slider, if it's the same as the stanchion, then the answer is a simple "no". :D

If the ID is greater than the 41.7mm of the stanchion, you're just missing the bush.  Consult your local Ducati or Guzzi dealer, the bush is not listed in the 1000SFC supplement, was never available from Laverda as a spare.

Hi Piet,
dont get it. The question was ...or... How can the answer be "no"? Could be "yes" and the meaning the same or not, so, what's the answer?  (hello)

Andre,

Apparently there were at least 2 versions of the M1R.

The early type only had the upper bush in the slider and the stanchion lower bore directly in the alloy slider, making the bush utter nonsense.  Later, a bush was added to the lower end of the stanchion, this meant the slider got a slightly larger ID so that contact between stanchion and slider was only at the bushes.

And the answer is... 42, or was it 49?  Oh, and thanks for the fish! :D

Thanks, Piet

I got a drawing from Thorsten (German forum fellow) who went through this some 5 years ago or so. His M1R - allthough originally equipped by Laverda - had two plastic bushes. The slider measured almost exactly 42mm, which is just 0,3mm larger than the 41,7mm stanchion. However, the grove in the stanchion lower is 39mm, which gives room for a 1,5mm thick slider.

I will have to measure it but currently am not really sure how, as my measuring tools are not reaching far enough into the slider... Maybe I just leave it to the company that will do the cartridge conversion...  ::)

regarding going to the guzzi or ducati dealer. I fear that will not help. first of all, they are all different in size and material. Most now have them in coper with a Teflon coating but the hight of the ring is different... BMW and Guzzi had 25mm ones, Laverda 15,5mm, not sure about Ducati. Most of them are thicker than 1,5 mm...

I fear they have to be manufactured out of a very, very hard but low friction material...  ::)

So Lothar, apart from the BMW sealing adventure, did you ever manage to find some plastic upper and lower bushings as used in the Laverda M1R?
In the event of yes, I'd like to know where?

Kind regards,
Jacques
