M1R Fork Dust Seal Washers

I am just reassembling the M1R forks with new, original Marzocchi oil seals and dust seals.  Having fitted the first washer, oil seal and then the snap ring, the second washer was fitted, followed by the dust seal.

With the dust seal (identical dimensionally to the old one) fitted, the washer (original one replated) between it and the snap ring, rattles around.  When I removed it I cannot remember it being loose, though it was very crusty with corrosion.  Has anyone else noticed the washer to be both loose and appear to serve no purpose?

Cheers, Andy

That's interesting Piet.
But there were definitely 4 washers when I stripped my forks. The Marzocchi manual parts illustration shows them (Item 139) and the procedure describes fitting all four, but the upper ones do not seem to do anything apart fron rattle - and corrode! Maybe I should just omit them, but I would like to think that Marzocchi fitted them for a reason?

Perhaps the DPO of my forks already tossed them in the bin... I know I would if they just rattled around!

Bruce,

What I have is just the Marzocchi 42 M1R service manual that illustrates the parts - it is not actually a parts catalogue with part numbers - it is also not a very good service manual, but it is all that there is and is better than nothing.  I do have it in PDF - if you do not have it, I can email it to you?
