C?mon Cosi, have you even tried them? On public roads they are as good as the major brands. Very few of us drive on tracks where it might make a difference. And besides, what is this ?hard riding? you are referring to? How hard and fast should I drive to qualify?

I've got a pair of these Maxxis on my Guzzi, were on it when it came over from the US.. wasn't too sure about them at first as I'd never heard of them before.. Couldn't fault them on a 3000Km ride to Adelaide recently, even when I fucked up a few bends rode a bit spiritedly and had to heel it over further than I would have wished in a hurry and on dubious surfaces (wet/rippled/gravelly centreline stuff) :o :o... Rock solid!

These look and feel similar to a Metzeler/Continental combination I had on a GT550 when I used to despatch in London in late 80s.. Rather than looking for a more familiar brand I'll be chasing another set of Maxxis for the Guzzi presently...

I have heard that the Jamie Whitham track school uses Maxxis tyres, if this is so I would assume that the quality is at least reasonable. Can't prove it but the next time I pass him on my 250RS (on my Wan King rubber Co Tiger Claw Skidmaster De Luxe tyres) I'll hang off the side and see if I can confirm it !. ;)

Always safer to stick with the major manufacturers.

Can you still get Avon Safety Mileage tyres?
They would outlast most of the bikes they were fitted to.
No problem getting your knee down or any other body parts especially in the wet.

Jeez I can remember those things dumping me on my ass on the A5 near Hinckley in 1966.

Hi LJ, here is what I wrote on the FJ1200 forum...

I have been chuffed with my ?60 Rear Maxxis. 2.5k miles completed. Grip, wear, etc, all bang on the button so far. Would I have another? At this price - yes.
It's a M6002 (VB16 150/80 71V). The wear rate sugests they will be OK for circa 5k+ miles. I ride pretty hard and never take the motorway or straight A roads. Paul.
Hag.

Was refering to Pauls quote above, I asked Dave at Tyres for Bikes where we get our tyres in Brisbane about them, his comment
"not for you guys"
and they dont seem that much cheaper here than a proper set
