Mirage Air box

I?m in the process of replacing the air filter element on a series 2 Mirage.
I have a question about the two internal components of the air box.
Neither of these components form part of the 3C box, with which I am familiar.

1.  The lower plate with the single hose for air entry into the box.
This plate seems very restrictive.  Not sure what its purpose is, other than, perhaps, to reduce induction noise.
Since I don?t want the old girl gasping for air and I don?t mind a little heavy breathing, so could I dispose of it?

2.  The upper plate with the three sections that connect into the air hose rubbers.
Does this aid airflow and should I retain this component?

The existing element is a gummy, oily foam one.  I intend to replace it aircon filter material.

Throw these restrictor plates away.
They were put there likely to try to reduce intake noise to get through some regulations.
You may need to re-jet.
Don't forget to block off the bolt holes in the airbox that used to hold that metalwork in place.

Fit K1 needles at the same time then. I assume you still have K14s (it's stamped on the needles)
I would go to around 125 to 130 mains as a starting point due to these inlet/exhaust changes.

Hi Tom.

Grant is spot on, follow that dudes advice...

If you are going to replace the air filter element I suggest you split the original element casing to get rid of the old foam. Nip to to your local Peugeot parts stockists and pick up an air filter for a Peugeot 104, 205, 405 diesel engined motor they use an oiled foam rubber that is a tubular shape ....  Just chop up what you need ... Cost me about ?6.00  I will never use the leftover.

              Regards

                      Tim
