Montjuic forks

Ian ,

I don't understand why you would want to set it back to the standard pre load. Isn't this irrelevant. Don't you need to set the preload to suit your rider and the current weight of the bike in race form?

If your getting chatter and you're running valves don't you need to play with the oil viscosity? This is the controlling factor for rebound dampening. Maybe you need to play with the tyre pressures as well.

These 500's weigh bugger all, so how hard is it to get one handling properly?

Chris

I nice thick peice of thick walled Plastic conduit with a couple of thick steel washers top and bottom, make it longer than needed and slowly reduce the length till right.Once set glue the washers in place on the conduit to make fitting easier

Set the sag and ride heights as best you can: these settings work on my Ohlins selection  8)
Free Sag (Full extension and then the difference between that and the bike weight producing a change of) Rear: 5-7mm, Front: 20-22mm
Ride Height (Full extension and then with Bike Drmsby the elephant aboard producing a change of): Rear 25mm, Front 30mm

Then start experimenting with oil blends to get the right viscosity, from memory we were running a blend to achieve a 12 weight, we did however still have some minor patter on a trailing throttle (with no cheatin valve changes, just hours making sure everything was balanced) but nothing terrifying, always better if you keep on the gas though - just tell Drmsby to keep the power on (like you need to).  :o

Big smiles, best thoughts and keep your greedy fuggin maulers off my Monty  ;)

Thank you lads, and yes, and yes. We're into all that, I'm just rootin' abart getting some basics. I have a variety of pre-loaders at hand, and 3 different blends of oil, 3 different riders, of which I'm the middleweight I'm pleased to advise....etc etc. let alone a couple of good folk tossing their two bobs worth in..and now you lot too, so overall, I reckon we're going OK.. ;)
Really appreciate all your thoughts and good intentions. This little bike has a lot of people's input making it better and better. Test day next is 13/8, so I'll update all on results.
Ciao
