Monty plugs

Hello all, can anyone recommend spark plugs for my Monty race engine, very high compression, S1 cams, standard carbs (unless you have some spare large ones) and large diameter exhaust system, running on standard fuel

I'd tend to think they were for warming-up only, to prevent fouling in the cold engine.  As the engine reaches operating temps, colder plugs would be fitted.

Hi Fitz,

In mine I run 8's - NGK D8EVX

78mm Ross pistons,S1 cams,Sachse ignition,Keihin Carbs,rev limit 10500.

Not had a problem!

Enjoy,
Andy
PS  11.5 :1 compression, last few years used Shell V Power.

I always used NGK D8EV plugs, tried a few others but kept coming back to these.

Shell V-power and Millers CVL was the best smiles per mile mix for mine.

Hello all, further to the enquiry regarding plugs for my Monty race engine

The plugs recommended by Any are no longer available (officially) I found a supplier on Ebay and ordered some, they sent a different type. As they are a merchant with cock all technical knowledge I got onto NGK

The original D8EVX type is now replaced by the DR 8E1X, no problem sourcing these

Hope this helps

Evening. I just fired up my 500 and the left hand exhaust has dulled compared to the right hand side. Checked the plugs and there was a D8EA in the left and a D9EA in the right. This made me think that the left hand pot was running hot with the D8EA, which of course it should. So question here is should I go for the D9EA plugs? It seems that most use the 8s from this post. Thanks and welcome your opinions on the 9s

I don't think it's plausible that the choice of spark plug will affect the exhaust gas temperature.

I reckon your difference in exhaust temperature between left and right cylinders is down to something else, like carburettor adjustment.
