does anyone know where the factory, hand written, in about four or five  A4 size  black hardback/desk top "schoolbooks" are currently residing?

Andy,

First triple road test in Oz was an orange drum brake 3C, I think AMCN did the first test and it had the original 200mm headlight.
When Two Wheels Australia tested and published in November 1973, it had a 7" replacement headlight, word was that Two Wheels Australia had an accident after they had picked up the 3C and before they took any photo's.

to answer your question, mid 73, would have been on the boat for a minimum of 2 months, back in those days the wharfies never got anything of the docks in less than a month, usually 6 weeks

Hi Jacko in fact that feature article on the drum brake 3C in the 1973 November 2 wheels magazine shows a red bike and it shows a 200mm headlight. Not sure if that bike came to grief but the journo did mention a wet train line incident and a wheel replacement from one of the other 3 that were bought in as the front brake in the test bike was badly worn from some time at the Winton race track.
Would you believe I know where the remains of that bike are today, here is a picture of the engine it is number *1128*

Yeah, I even remember the 2 Wheels article talking about the huge headlight and how much light it put out. They couldn't have done too much night riding around town, or they would also have talked about how easy they were to push start with a flat battery  :D

Actually the very last issue of Two Wheels that I bought in Oz before heading to Europe!  Must have it somewhere.
