More dell'orto surprises.

Phil is probably in bed asleep at this hour, so I'll tell you my method.

You only need to shorten one end  :D

Get a pair of pliers with a wire cutter and snip about 1/4 to 1/3 off the length of the spring. With the grippy end of the pliers, grab the spring wire about 3/4 of a coil turn away from the cut end and bend it so that the cut end just touches the next coil. That sort of squares up the end of the spring so it sits straight inside the slide bore. Might take a couple of tweaks with the pliers to get it looking right.

If you stuff it up, you can buy lighter springs from a Dellorto parts supplier.

Thank you Henry and Smitty, the black throttle is a twin pull jobby and the other one (shiney ally) I've already got and looks bloody awful! so never fitted it. Must be one out there somewhere. I've looked at twin pulls before and there was no way I could make my throttle cable fit. Ho hum. :( Stuart

Shortening a spring will make it stiffer.  You will need to order the lighter springs if you are leaking for an easier pull.

In therory this is correct BUT the stock springs are sooooo long that pre-load is the dominant feature of throttle action. Reducing spring length has a very positive effect. Mine are down to just over half original length.

Good point, I'd forgotten how much preload they have.  For the last 5 years I've been spoiled by modern Japanese carbs!
