Mystery Spring?

I think somebody told me where this item (white arrow pointing to it) is supposed to go inside the primary chaincase, but for the life of me I can't find the thread or the emails, if I had them.  Might be imagining things, again.

Oh, RGS1000SFC.

Any help appreciated.  I seem to remember it falling out when I removed the chain case last year, so I have no idea how it goes back in.

Thanks,

Scott

The open ends stick out the top of the hole in the chain tensioner, the closed end bears upon the ridge in the chaincase cover.  Fit the tensioner axle to the cover, slide the tensioner on, you might then recognize where the spring goes.  It only prevents the tensioner blade from flopping around.

Yep!

Pre-assemble the tensioner as in your pic and slide it onto the engine case.  The tapered end of the tensioner axle helps find the corresponding bore in the case.

I'd clean up the sealing surface first... and clean out the gunge in the corners! :D
