ND instrument identification

Can any one identify these clocks. They are fitted to the 1977 3CL I recently acquired. They are a blue/grey colour rather than the usual dark green, the red line is around the periphery rather than a wedge.

I had thought the 77 models would have been fitted with the dark green faces with Logos on.

The bike is French originally  - were they different to the UK ones??

They are probably after market faces - Gotta say it appears someone took a lot of trouble polishing not only the gauge bracket but also the gauge casings - NICE.

Notice the slight ding in the Speedo-Casing at the 60 klik mark - It can be fixed with a little TLC.

Needles don't look Laverda ND either.

Ducrapi Darmah used similar clocks, redline was around 8 grand, from memory.
Or just could be different faces on original clocks.
Who can tell these days?

They seem to be Laverda OE items from a 500, hence the higher red line.  Ratios are the same as for the big twins and triples.

I don't think they're Ducati clocks Grant.

I don't recall any Ducatis having the idiot lights in the dial faces. My Duc also has "DUCATI" on the dial face.
I dunno whether any Ducatis had clocks with idiot lights and no Ducati logo on them. But I suppose anything is possible.

Cheers,
Cam

Been wondering about this for a while. Has anyone ever looked at using off-the-shelf "ratio adapters" with generic ND gauges to correct the cable rotational speed? I bought one for my Acura (American Honda car) to correct the speedo reading (10 percent off), worked perfectly, $US65. Just a little disc with threaded fittings that attaches between the cable and speedo/tachometer.

The Speedo looks identical to my original speedo off my series 2 Jota. Blue background, even same yellowy tip of needle ;). My Tacho has the same blue background, however has original red line starting at 6500. My Tacho still has small red tip on needle just like in your picture...........

Reminds me I must get this one fixed.

Ken,

A friend used one from VDO on his BMW 60/5 when ditched the fugly original clocks for aftermarket Daytonas. This was in 1993.

This is from the 350/500 Laverda article on 12/2011 "Motocliclismo d'Epoca".
Sorry for the quality, but the pic is only 8x4 cm.

Ciao,
Marco.

That looks spot on.

There is evidence the bike has been dropped in the past (front axle has evidence of gravel rash) it is likely the clocks were replaced then.

So that raises the question of the true mileage of the bike - I guess I'll never know

Fix the speedo mounting a.s.a.p. or you'll be looking for another speedo shortly!

Well spotted  - Its had a bodged/riveted repair. It'll be on the list of things to do. I have a spare set of binacles I'm intending to fit.

I also have the correct cable clutch set up which will be fitted.

Does any one have experience of using the "Clocksndials" replacement faces. Are they a good match or do they just look naff?

That Bosch Ignition Switch has to be one of the most deadliest Keyed Switches ever designed - Replace it with a simple trustworthy Toggle & Trip a Hidden in-lined Ignition Toggle if you want - Don't use Keys with a Bosch System.

no, they can't be ducati, cam's right, and anyway the 860s red line at 7900 at least the SSs and MHRs do
