Newbie Laverda owner.

Stuart, just enjoy it, never mind any numbers etc. they mean nothing when you're gunning it!  :D
I was interested in this bike last year but the price was too high for a bitsa. Depends what you paid but it is still a good bike and I would like it  :D

Out of interest, where did you see it for sale? Now I know exactly what it is I guess I paid an OK price, at least it's tax free. I'll just have to ride it for a few years to get some money back... :D

I'll do some digging Stuart so look for a pm. I'm away at the moment, give me a few days. regards Pat.

The numbers on the papers match the numbers on the bike and that makes it legit. That is all you need if you are like most of us here and just want to ride (and work on) our bikes. Laverda didn't make lemons. The history, matching numbers thing is important if you really want the purist thing or as a pension investment. Think of the history as an interesting aside to the bike, like tracing family heritage if that is your thing. Does anyone know if replacement cases had numbers stamped in? I seem to recall we had to do it ourselves at the Oz importers, maybe others had to get it done at the DoT.
Your bike looks like a really nice SF1 so leave the worrying to the worriers. Get out on it this summer and fall in love with it.

Hi Tippie, thanks for the wise words of encouragement.

I'm already in love with it and we haven't turned a wheel yet. I'm over the fact that it has a colourful past and am just looking forward to getting out on it. I've just received "The Green Book" from Amazon, it makes good reading.

Thanks to all out there that have pointed me in the right direction so far, I've learnt a lot. Shame I didn't join up before I started looking.

Also, the enthusiasm for the brand is 100%. The general consensus seems to be - just ride the bloody thing..... :D

Some big wedding going on over here today, girlfriends glued to the telly already, I'm off into the workshop. Couple of jobs to do on the Triumph and then it's Laverda time.

I'll be posting progress as I work through the bike and no doubt there will be loads more questions.

Cheers,

Stuart

Hi Stuart

I just read all the way through this thread. Really nice purchase, who cares if it is not 100% correct, very few are these days after all these years, and especially who cares if it is going to be a rider...!!

The top engine case has clearly been restamped, no big deal as long as the sucker wasn't stolen earlier in its life, but you might want to add the missing digit "1", then hit the flat shiny number boss with a sandblaster to rough it up and take eyes away from it :D
