Does anyone have any instruction details for rebuilding a rear Ohlins monoshock off a Ducati 999? The factory workshop manual says send it to an Ohlins service centre.....

I want to avoid that if I can.

Regards, Greg

as far as I know, the ?hlins dampers are filled with gas, nothing you can do at home. there might be a reason why the manual says to send them to ?hlins...  ;)

Find a shop which rebuilds dirt bike shocks - not necessarily an Ohlins specialist.
Their chargeout rates are often lower than the service agents - and they see more shocks too.

My understanding is that the gas is nitrogen, which means one can take it to a tyre shop that fills tyres with nitrogen and have it refilled. I don't want to pay some other #$*@er to do it. I want to learn do it myself, which is why I'm looking for info :)

Paul Thead AKA Mr Racetech comes to Oz and does Suspension seminars, there pay to play, expect he does other countries as well.
There is also a book available from them called The Suspension Bible. You will need some specalist tools as well. Lots of experience needed if you want to delve into changing shims.

Might be worth a call to Reactive suspension as they supply some of the tools and parts required for suspension service.

You can even avoid having to take the exhaust off to adjust the shock.

And can even teach you how to do it.

Send it to ohlins specialist from my experience it's very hard to find correct seals and use ohlins oil for good Operation of the shock rebuild cost is 130 e. In slovenia

I went to a cuorce (?) at reactive and bought some tools.
Tools are not cheap but I think it was well worth it.
If you have enough pressure you can refill fith compressed air (12 bar if remember corect). You need a tool to fill it though.
