Oil Breather Hose SF2

Had my SF2 running now for a few days and seem to have a problem with hose.
I put on a new hose from Wolfgang when I completed the project last week
After an approx 15 miles the hose split about a 1/4" where it goes over the fitting on the top of the head.  So i trimmed it off and re-attached it securing it with a piece of safety wire.  After a quick 10 mile ride it now completely ripped apart above the safety wire.  I'm assuming teh fitign vibrated loose rotated and tore the hose.  I did tighten the fitting as best I could with a pair of smooth jawed channel locks.

A) What am I doing wrong?
B) Is there a different type of hose or device I should be using?

Thanks.

Old stock hose.....or maybe stored incorrectly?

The breather hose usually lasts 5-6 years before it starts disintergrating.  Never had a breather outlet vibrate loose, either.

Fit the hose with a quality hose clamp without pinching it, your wire may have cut the surface of the rubber, causing it to tear off.

Thanks Piet.
It had been sitting around on my shelf for a bit.
I live in Colorado where its a bit dry so I'll order a new one from Wolfgang.

IF Wolfgang is not around I once used a drain hose from a household washing machine for my 750 SFC. Available at any home store for a few bucks...they have a nice molded curve in them you can use to come off the head.

I wonder if the hose routign was part of the problem.
I have it going bewteen the carbs then down to the sort of boxed in area in the swingarm for the exit.
