Oil cooler conundrums..

If you fit a second hand oil cooler you need to know the history of the bike which donated it. If the donor had a bearing failure you could find your shiny restored engine reduced to junk by the bits of swarf inside it...

Just food for thought ..

I don't know if there is any way of effectively cleaning out a used oil filter to be sure ?

 You can flush them backwards and forwards with the parts washer and that should clean any crap out, Having said that I threw a nice one away a while back because it came on an engine that was full of glass bead and I could not be sure sure it was all out.
 They are quite often full of yoghurty yuck anyways so they should be flushed as a matter of course if the cooler is an unknown quantity or you are reviving an old machine.

Just like Keith's, my way is to..... Take the cooler off, hang upside down, fill with paraffin, leave a few days, blow out with compressed air, repeat several times both ways. Makes a huge mess but kinda satisfying. PH.

Another good reason to not install the cooler upside down as it could be advertized sometimes!

you can get aerosol cans of cooler line flush,used in garages to flush out the cooler lines and oil coolers when installing a new or reconditioned auto gearbox,most suppliers will void the warranty on the autobox if the lines have not been  flushed properly also used to flush intercoolers after turbo failure
