Oval rear Hub

6 weeks ago I had a rear tyre fitted to my 3C, didnt notice any issue. But I think I might have had some loose spokes, so when I discovered some had flogged out the hole the spokes came out of in the rim, this had been not 100% for years as these rim holes needed fetaling since they had been drilled wrong before I got the rim, I also notice for the first time that the rear brake was slightly rubbing on the hub and not rubbing completely around it, that was very resent. I asked the wheelwright to check the drum for being out of round and thats what he found. He is setting the hub up in his lath to correct this. Hope its only out a small amount.I found it hard to believe such a massive rear hub could suddenly become oval just from a few loose spokes. Whats the brains trust think about this happening, common or a one off.BTW a visual check, holding a screwdriver close to the rim showed no runout in either direction, but I could feel a looseness in the rear end while riding and some spokes didnt ring with a tap and then didnt tighten at all till the nipple was completely out of the rim. That's when it became obvious it was serious and needed a fix.

Very common Vince.

4mm spokes can easily pull the hub out of true.  Won't be much, but easily enough to make itself felt in the brake pedal.  Best to rebuild the wheel from scratch before skimming the assembled hub.

Yes as Piet suggested lace and true the wheel then skim the drum make sure they dont take too much out of the drum.
Those large hubs really shouldn't have larger diameter spokes IMO as the flanges clash as the spokes pass over them even with normal spokes.
If your wheel builder still has to make the spokes get the hook made slightly longer.
