Painting over decals

Yep, they come in the handy home paintshop 50m rolls

Even decent masking tape isn't cheap. I went for the cheaper grade tape which was OK but the paint did bleed under in a few spots. That was $28 a roll. The guaranteed no bleed fineline tape was ~AUD$100 a roll.

Davo, I just use the standard "selleys" tape you get from the hardware, 5 bucks a roll. Fuck paying a fortune for masking tape. To avoid the bleeding along the edge just burnish the edges with you fingernail or something along those lines.

Hey CK, good to see your going to do a proper job then!!

3M do a edge masking tape Green and Blue slightly different properties. low tack and designed to peal a clean edge, One of our Laverda club members works for 3M and gave me a couple of rolls to try, I've seen it a the local hardware & paint stores, cost a bit more per roll but as 1 roll would do a 100 decals no big deal. I think the green is no bleed edge from memory.

Used the blue 3M tape for years. Its good stuff, but then it disappeared off the shelves.I could only see the Green tape and I didn't like it as well. Finally bought some, they had changed the color of the wrapping on the blue tape to green.Marketing blokes,so blue tape is now wrapped in green platic

Hey Rob, wasn't going to do any more painting but the Jeep went arse up and I have had to fork out all my dosh to get a new car - put paid to flogging the Guzzi and replacing it with and MV F3 800.  So now I need someone to teach me how to make a mould from the glass on the goose and then lay carbon as the Goose is going to get goosed.

A way to go is ordering a laser cut masking foil.
Put the foil on, spray on the logo, remove the masking foil, and spray a clear coat.
Easy as...

Makes me wonder if the vinyl letter cutter-outering people could do the same thing with masking tape for such requirements  :-\

There are a number of special paint mask vinyls. These have a low tack adhesive allowing them to be removed easily without affecting the paint below, and can be left on when items get baked for curing. In an earlier life I designed and made vinyl paint masks for 8 F1 teams (Williams, Renault, Beneton. Toyota et al). Williams F1 for 8 years...

I checked with my local sign maker and they do laser cut masking foil. So I'll get some "LAVERDA" masks made to do the graphics on my RGS mongrel.

Incidentally, the sign maker is a shop called "Euro Signs" and it's run by a couple of Italian brothers. When I went in with a sample of the Laverda logo, the bloke behind the counter said "Ah! Moto Laverda - itsa from near my home town. I do a special price for you".
