Piece of very expensive history for sale.

Bit of a stupid ad. You'd think anyone selling a bike like that would place an ad that isn't so ambiguous. I thought it was just a workshop manual too when I read the title. Why the fuck include the word "manual"? It's not as if there was ever a version with automatic transmission. And the first half of the description makes it sound like they're selling Mike Hailwood himself.

If you look at the other vehicles they've listed for sale, all their motorcycles have the word "Manual" in the title, while none of their car ads specify the transmission type. You'd thing it would be more useful the other way around.

It's a pretty safe bet that Mike did actually ride the bike, since only one RC173 was ever built by Honda. So unless this one is a very detailed and accurate replica, it has to be Mike's bike. I reckon finding spare parts would be a bit of a challenge for a one-off bike.

How do you put a price on a one-off item? Plenty of not so unique bikes have sold for more. To me it seems way more desirable than the crappy old Vincents, Broughs, Crockers, etc. that have sold for more, so the asking price seems reasonable. I'd love to have it in my garage, and I could afford it too if I sold my house. I'd have to live in a tent though.
 
It’s that typical auction type description. Best to scroll to the last lines and you might find info on the actual item being offered..

It's a piece of history and to my eyes functionally beautiful as well. If I was rich I would rather have that than most of the ostentatious garbage the wealthy spend money on. It would be in my art collection.

The listing was probably created by a young person who's only ever driven a Tesla & has no idea !!

I think it is Sir Sid that got Joey Dunlop to sign a photo/poster and when he framed it he noticed an oily smudge in one corner so had it ‘stamped over’ to tidy it up. He now regrets it as that would be the best way of authenticating the signature….
