Popping and Banging

G'day Maurice, no. Only pulling away at low revs such as at intersections or from lights. Once on a clear road, it clears and runs as normal.

Possibly found the problem: the red lead from the DMCII unit to the coils has been rubbing against the aluminium flasher can, the insulation has been rubbed away exposing the core. The flasher can is mounted in a rubber holder and is insulated from the frame, a voltmeter shows no earth paths but not sure if the can is earthed when the ignition is switched on. A while ago, during my pre-riding checks I noticed that both front indicators came on when I tested the left and right sides but the problem cleared after a few blips of the throttle. The problem seemed only to appear when riding in built up areas and accelerating around corners, not sure if I had the indicators on or not. Could be a coincidence but worth pursuing.

The feed to your blinker switch (LH switchblock) goes through the flasher relay/can on the way to the thumb switch. The thumb switch directs the signal to the right or left blinker lamps. The relay cannot cause both sides to come on at once. That is almost always an earth problem. The flasher can housing is very unlikely to be earthed, inside it is either a bimetallic strip that heats up and opens and closes the circuit to make them flash or an electronic unit. Just info for you so that you don?t waste time chasing a false lead. You should fix your ignition circuit wiring insulation regardless.

Yep Tippie, on top of that. Spent part of the day stripping and cleaning the carbs, do believe I found one of the idle jets blocked.
While I'm at it, intend checking the shims, cam chain tension, compression test, timing, tank flush, fuel tap filters and carb balance. Should keep me entertained for a while :).

Can I have a couple of beers, when I give you the six pack Pat?

Sorry fellas, wont be coming to Sydney for various reasons. But if you make it down to Curdie Vale I'll be able to shout you all few Cooper's. (Terry the OAP)

Coopers? Isn't that relabeled Listerine?
Shame you won't be there Terry, was looking forward to catching up and shooting the breeze (wafting over from the tip).

Cam chain tensioned (was a bit slack), clearances checked, compression checked (150 psi), abraded wire repaired, tank flushed, carbs cleaned and balanced. All ready for a test ride :)

if cam chain was real loose it is possible for it to jump a tooth on the cam sprockets which would cause popping and banging
did you happen to check your cam timing when you were inside the engine ?

All good, just been for a test ride around my part of the Adelaide Hills; major pushie infestation for the tour down under, hey Victoria, any chance of you stealing it from us?
Bike purring, not sure what was the cause but a thorough check-out obviously cured the problem.
Thanks for all the advice blokes.
