Power to the battery

14.4 - 14.6v is what I expect to see out of a good RR.  14.95v suggests that your RR is past its best - output increases with age until the RR completely fails

SSB motorcycle batteries are apparently LiFePO4 type. I can't find any SSB technical documentation, but this type of Lithium battery typically has a  recommended charging voltage of 14.6v, with a minimum 14.2v.  Anything more than 16.8v will drastically reduce battery life.

A standing voltage of 13.9 indicates a fully charged battery.

Rather than look for an original, I picked up a Sasche one through Redax recently, if that helps..

Rob, I just ordered one of these, it gives voltage and two USB outlets. I have GPS and GoPro to charge while on the run, so works for me.

It would be connected to switched power, so shows system voltage, dependent on where it is connected up. The USBs will be able to be used whenever the ignition is switched on, as will the voltage readout. I wouldn?t connect one to read all the time, will drain the battery. I?m not sure how much more LEDs draw than LCD (which are normal on clocks on modern bikes). My experience is that bikes with permanent LCD clock need maintenance charging, like in winter over here where the bike sits for months.

Handy Chris but I don't need the USBs.
Not sure what is going on with the RR, fired it up yesterday and the RR output was reading 14.6V. So far it's been 14.6, 14.9 and 14.4 all at around 4000rpm.

14.6, 14.9 and 14.4
Should be the same, once things settle down 1-2 min after starting.  Either a poor connection on voltage sense wire (if your RR has a separate line for this) or ditto on feed to battery....which is where you had a fuse melt before?  Maybe check your earth (sorry - neutral for the pedants) connections.
Or the battery / RR is on its way out.

Thanks Rob
No voltage sense wire, wish there was one. I'll recheck the earth [always been earth to me] connections again.
And check the RR output again after the motor has run as you suggested.
Apart from that the Motodd is running fantastic!!
