I also meant to mention when Martin and I went to watch the races on Saturday evening, at the slow right hand turn at Cross-Fourways, we were surprised at how many other riders, including some of the front runners, were fluffing up changes as they accelerated away from the corner. So it's not just me having issues.

For what its worth Andy, i have no problems with my ankles but its not uncommon for me to fluff upchanges probably 3rd or 4th, simple thing as a change of boots and its necessary to adjust the linkage to bring the lever closer to the top of my boot .
Did exactly that this weekend.
When sprinting, i dont even attempt upchanges, i invert the splined arm to reverse the pattern, so that after engaging 1st, its all down from there on. Not sure i fancy that on track tho' , barrelling into a bend trying to upshift for some braking..

Ive also moved the pivot point nearer the spline, so the effort is greater but the movement is much reduced from a standard triple setup, maybe the zane could be adapted to reduce the movement required, although the heel/toe thing sounds good.

That's a standard 'race pattern', Rob. Quite common. I run mine like that 100% of the time, road or track.
 
I run my Motodd with a reverse pattern. Been that way for 25 years. On track I occasionally miss gears but I don't think it's because of the reverse pattern. On my SFC I have the toe heel lever which I really like. There is a big difference to the feel of the mechanism between the 750 and triple.
750 is so much tighter, very little slop compared to the triple.
 
My rearset gear levers are genuine Jota and have two hole positions on each lever, which allows loads of adjustability in travel at the foot (and associated tight/sloppy feel Rob mentions).
