Pride before the fall etc...

Chaps
riding into London on my unrestored SF, I congratulated myself on my impeccable taste and thought how cool we were, gliding in on the tough-looking and utterly reliable black boomer 8) 8) 8) How I laughed when I looked down and saw black oil honking out of the rev counter cover on the head!! :-[ :-[ :-[

Am I correct in assuming it's just a paper gasket that's failed /not there? Can I make a new one, or is it a special fitment ?

Any thoughts much appreciated. Now to get the oil out of my newly reproofed Docs.... >:( >:( >:(

Pauly three Lavs, two of which still work...

Could be the cover gasket itself which is made from thick card. You could make one yourself, there's a cutaway for the rev counter drive if I remember well.

Otherwise, it could be the rev counter drive itself leaking.

Make sure oil isn't coming from LH front tappet cover.

As you should: now go wash yer mouth out with soap....

Hi Paul - if you make a new gasket - make sure it's the same thickness as original otherwise the cover may either not
seat fully or may push on the cam bearing. -  it's unusual for these gaskets to fail - make sure oil is not overfilled or breather not blocked or kinked as pressure can cause oil to work its way up the tacho drive - Regards - Phil

Fuck me- just Googled it!  It's the bastard offspring of a BMW Cruiser and a V-Max.    What were they thinking?

True story, Reggie. I went with my daughter to the showroom, she wanted a Monster and I saw one on display. "Fark me! what an ugly bike" quoth I.  "Here's the key to our demo, Paul, p*ss off for a couple of hours and when you come back I'll process your order". And I did. It's bleddy fantastic, one of the biggest laughs I've ever had on a bike and, as an added bonus, it looks ridiculous!

Come and try it.
Cheers

Well I'll take your word for it,  and I'm sure it's a hoot to ride but by gum it's had a right leathering with the ugly stick.  I used to get around London for a little while on a ZL1000 Eliminator many moons ago- suppose it's that kind of bike- a power cruiser?

what's a 406 ; )

An improvement on 405?

+ 1.

Definitely worth checking the breather ball too.
Take it out and drop it from shoulder height. Should only bounce a few inches. If it bounces like a super ball..... it's shagged and will be blocking the breather.

Someone on the Snowy Run was speaking of this same thing, kinked breather hose= presure buildup and oil pissing out there tacho cable.

So, it goes like this:
Having unpacked my new gasket and o ring from the ever piss-taking Richard Slater, I removed the tank and saw?.a kinked breather pipe. After hacksawing off three fingers I then managed to squeeze my bloody stump into the gap and remove the breather cap, before bouncing the ball. SWMBO asked me what I thought I was doing in her kitchen' " testing my ball bounce" is, apparently, the wrong answer. Ball fine, new gasket in, unkink pipe and?.shazam! she's a runner.

Old bikes? Don't know what the fuss is about. For sale, Ducati Diavel, one carefu?.
