Re: Side panel repair

On the subject of sidecovers, one of the covers on my Jota cracked as I was pulling it off last weekend (horizontal crack from the forward pin to the front edge). Do the original covers weld OK or should I use an epoxy patch on the inside?

Cheers,
Cam

Cam,
I got my original sidepanels welded up prior to painting. The painter said they were ABS.
They welded up really well.
I don't think it would hurt to put a reinforcing patch there, and then take it easy removing and replacing the sidepanel.

Shaun, not all RGS covers were made of Bayflex. There are a few fibreglass ones out there.

yes covers are panels but lets not worry over this just wish Bayflex had been used more shame it was so expensive.

I did an effective structural repair with fibreglass tape and epoxy on the inside. The cracks are still visible from the outside. It'll need a bit of bog and paint to fix that. JLO's Jota in BOM is telling me I should return it to its original green colour - One day maybe. In the meantime I'll just ride it and look after the functional side of things. I'm not too fussed about the odd cosmetic blemish.

Cheers,
Cam

By the way I think JLO would be quite offended that his bike is being called a Jota.

It is very proudly a 3-C-L.

Thought it was just the noobs in pub car parks that assumed anything with Laverda on the tank and three cylinders was a Jota.  :P

I stand corrected. But in my defence, I was misled by Scrumpy: "This month I have featured Jotas"

I only looked at the bike very briefly (long enough to cast a vote), otherwise it would have sent me scrambling for the paint pot.

That was my interpretation also. I did note that nowhere on the green bike does it say 'Jota', but Scrumpy DID say they were all Jotas. Perhaps he should enter politics? ;)

I used a dedicated plastic repair 2 part glue plus glass fibre plasterboard (dry wall) jointing tape- has a nice open square mesh so you can embed it nicely in the glue.  The plastic glue seemed to hold better than epoxy.

Washer and araldite works for me.

Hi Cam,
I have a similar repair to my right one.
Maybe we should whip abound and get a bulk order together.
Mine is holding well but has other issues.
