Rear brake pedal return

Hi, wonder if some-one can answer this one please?
At last MOT the tester indicated that the rear-set brake pedal on my modified 3CL wasn't returning properly.
Having stripped it today it seems as if  the concentric spring U bend on the inside of the shaft mounting bush is fouling the swinging arm and/or doesn't have sufficient tension to return the lever even when/if it does contact.
So the question is - is this a known fault and how can I cure it?
My first thought is to chop the end off the spring at the U bend, leaving a straight tang at 90 deg to the concentric then drill a hole in the actuating lever (the part nearest the swinging arm) and insert the tang so it's under tension aiding the return.
Any thoughts/suggestions gratefully received.
Thanks in advance, Pewe  :-\

Sounds like the shaft the brake lever fits on is not far enough through the lever itself. You have to push it with a screwdriver or similar while pushing the pedal on to the shaft. If not, the spring touches the swingarm.
The angle the pivot arm joins the rod connecting to the rear master cylinder also affects how well the return spring does it's job.

Thanks, Grant.
Will check that out but I'm pretty certain the arm is tight up against the inner face of the bush.
I spaced the lever where the splined extension lever contacts the outside of the bush to ensure it pulls into the bush from the back.
Angle of the connecting arms will be worth checking.
Cheers, Pewe.
