Rear disc

Chums, just noticed 2or 3 small cracks on my rear disc (Jarama). They run from the carrier bolts to about an inch across the disc face. They look to have been there for some time, there is no distortion on the disc and I can only feel the crack with a thumb nail. So...the question is, when I do get round to replacing it, what do I replace with?. Yes I know another disc!  but any particular make or stick to originals??

Stuart, I have some used but good condition discs.
PM me if you are interested and we can discuss exact type etc.

Stuart, Don;t "get around to replace it" do it ASAP.Having had the experience of a rear disc breaking and locking the rear at 50mph it is not somthing you want to have happen. It is kind of a tail wag then splat! It hurts too.

two other things to do here, first is check that there is free play in the mechanism that operates the master cylinder, if there is none, the brake can "come on" all by itself ,just like magic, and will cause overheating and then cracking of the disc, second check the caliper, as if one piston sticks a bit, and drags after brake operation,(or even both pistons) the same can happen, then get a disc which is adequately thick and true, not that hard to get trued up, if there is enough meat left, but this is best done on a purpose made "hub" mounted in the lathe which can first be clocked/machined true and then both sides of the disc machined without removing it from the chuck, there are other methods that work wel, but that is the way my son does it.

Thank you to those who replied, I will get the disc replaced asap(cheers Grant). There is small amount of play in the actuating arm as specified but the brake works fine.at the moment!...Stuart

I hope you bought a lottery ticket after finding that broken disc. You LUCKY LUCKY LUCKY B@$T@RD!!!

One bit of advice on the rear disc, is to make sure the wheel alignment was spot on. Check there is no abnormal wear on the pads when you take it apart. EBC do nice quality replacements & you could probably replace the solid one for a floater. A wee bit more forgiving.
