Red TPS vs Black TPS ?

I only know the difference in injectors:
Black one is for 650,668,750S
Red one is for 750 Formula (which are bigger)

I've never seen a red TPS on a Laverda Zan? they are always black.

I saw in a RC forum you were looking for a TPS? Maybe i have one in stock.

Cyriel if you do have one that will be great....The reason i'm asking about a red TPS i have seen one on ebay, "Sierra Escort 4x4 RS Cosworth PF09 throttle sensor TPS" i do know these TPS's where also used in these cars, fiats, alfa romeo's & sierras...

I have tested my TPS with a multimeter & found a dead spot at 1/4 turn out from closed..

don't have a definitive answer

seems both have been fitted to similar auto engines
like fiat 2.0 16v normally aspirated
and there are some number changes with production periods

i know most TPS units are either simple switches or have a linear variable resistance
but i expect some applications may use non linear values for specific applications

so, googled info on the weber marelli unit suggests it is designed is a non linear tps for most applications
but one of the duc sites suggests either a 04 or 05 will work in the same application (ie on a duc)
then i found this http://www.bikeboy.org/mvtps.html perhaps it will help

i did find another ref saying the red is a PF01 and the black a PF09
but nut much to back that up

mapping out the values on the one you have may help find the correct replacement unit

good luck

If your looking for another source for a TPS try a Harley shop or Harley wrecker. A number of Hogleys use the same TPS as Guzzi etc.

Thanks guys I'll try PF09/05 which i can through a friend of mine who works in a bike dismantle shop but he's away until next week.I don't think there will be much difference between PF09/04 & I'll soon find out, and if anyone else knows the difference please let me know.....

A bit too much of a Breganze obsession here, I had read "red or black tips" (float valves) at a first time...............

Presumably an injector will only flow what the ECU allows it to flow so if you fit a  larger capacity injector it won't make any difference unless you're looking at a remap. Or have I misunderstood how these things work?

by this I understand you are not interested in my TPS anymore? I tested my TPS and I do not even get a reply back by email?

bob, that's pretty close
electric injectors are just solenoids that open and close a pintle valve
the ECU sends a square wave signal for activation and duration
a slightly larger injector (greater net valve area) won't cause any issues as the closed loop system
will modulate the duration time
if there is a gross difference in size i think the std ECU will have difficulty
correctly modulating the spray duration
too small and the req duration may overheat inj drivers and the injectors
(much the same way a speaker gets blown. where it normally operates with a sine wave
if it is clipped into something like a square wave the heat fries the coils and it doesn't work)
one too large could flow more than the programmed minimum specified duration time

an interesting aside is what was done to run a ZR1 vette on CNG

bosch indycar injectors were used as the CNG required a much larger flow area
because CNG is a vapor rather than a liquid
all around a very interesting project as the camshafts had one inlet lobe ground slightly off the other (4V head)
to induce swirl in the cylinder

cheers,
scott

Hi Sonic and all,

From my Cosworth racing day's I seem to remember that the difference between the 2 was that one was "closed to open" and the other "open to closed" if makes any sense, you can swap the two around but you need to be able to remap the ecu.

Andy

Thanks Scott that does make sence.....BTW who would remap the ECU ?? Ducati guys ??? or any bike mechanic ??

Cyriel i have been away from the PC for a few days & haven't checked my emails (or they went in the spam folder)I'm still intrested if this other TPS is no good.....
