Renforcements on the SFC frame

Are the additional reinforcements on the frame for the lower engine mounts needed if for the track bike I'm building? I'm moving the center stand mounts and adding the little mounts on the steering head for the Boba fairing mounts I need, not sure if there is anything else I need to do. Ideas?

cheers

Quite sure the factory didn't do it because they didn't have anything better to do...

I've seen several broken engine mounts, mostly the upper rears.  I do suspect however, this may be the result of loose mounting bolts, these can cause horrific vibration leading to the lugs being ripped off.  I've also seen snapped swing arm spindles and broken swing arms.  Apart from that, the 750 frames are pretty tough.

I had to double a mate from Ceduna to Melbourne after his awful SF2 snapped all four engine lower mounts, but it hung in for a long time supported only by the two studs above the head before he or I noticed something 'wrong'!!!

That's scary. You must have hit some big mother f***in pot hole. I had the rear wheel spindle come loose at 100 mph.

Thanks for the info Piet, I figured they wanted to keep the engine attached  8)  Do you, Marnix, or anybody else have a preferred method to re-enforcing the rear engine mounts? I have pictures of Scott Potters SFC frame and can go from that but there is a more tried and proven way to do it I'll go that route.

Cheers

Hi Clay,

Did it only once, on my SF2.
Didn't do the welding myself but prepared everything.
Take a steel tube the width of the crankcase upper rear mounting (approx 170mm) and bolt it between the frame mounts using a 12mm dia thread end to make sure that the plates and bushes are all properly aligned when you weld the brackets.
