Rewind starter motor

(You sure you need it re-wound, Chris? Not just a worn set of brushes?  Denso brushes are very soft, IME).

Anyways ...

Any decent auto electrician will be able to a) diagnose the problem; b) sort you out.  Hopefully, you can find someone local to avoid postage costs; but, if you want a recommendation, I've used West Country Windings (for re-building pick-ups, for example):

NOTE: Confusingly, the company is NOT in the West Country anymore; they're in Essex.

Also and btw: There's nothing special about these Denso units - they're the same as fitted to Ducrappis of the period, except that the Ducrappi motor turns in the other direction.  However, if you need brushes, your overhauler may have to make them up - not a difficult task.  Last time I knew for certain, Denso weren't supplying replacements, the unhelpful gits.

only partly true, he also sells complete bikes and prefers to break bikes that are dead or beyond economic restoration. I haven't seen him breaking perfect bikes in the last few years, but he might have, I don't know.

he breaks anything he can get his grubby little hands on if he thinks he can make a buck!
Henry, the fact is Chris needs a working starter, that's what the thread is about.
The moral aspects of breaking bikes have been discussed here a hundred times.
If you still need further discussion, please make your own thread.

You could also try ralf@rooaring70s.de in Germany for a used one.
With credit and thanks to Robert in Holland off the Zan? Forum for this information:

1.  The Ducrappi version is still available new*.  Go:
http://www.al-electric.de/index.php?pid=610395

2.  AL Electric also lists brushes, which is contrary to what I said previously:
http://www.al-electric.de/index.php?pid=34420

* The motor is also listed by Rick's Motorsport Electrics in the USA.  And, certainly up to a couple of years back, this company also offered  brush mounting plates which could be used to make the Ducrappi motor turn in the right direction.  Contact there is/was Amanda Shaw (amanda at rickselectrics.com), the part # was 70-506, the cost was US$40.

3.  4-brush conversions are available from Gijs van Dijk in the Netherlands or OCT in Germany.

And I believe both companies offer a different reduction gear to improve the starter's performance.

Hi all I don,t think its the bushes , I got a Wesco battery at the end of last year once when cranking it over it seemed to stick and now it refuses to turn over but if I rock the bike in gear it moves the starter a bit then it turns over the bike ok. Thanks for the replies hopefully I will get a result Chris
