RGS carb issue

For as long as I have had my RGS, one cylinder (right side ) has always run rich at idle. I have swapped all the internal parts one at a time between it and the center cylinder. It still ran rich ???. So something is wrong with the carb body. I can see nothing wrong with it. Any ideas?

Remove the choke plunger and have a look down the hole at the seat in the carb body, should be a raised ring. I found one of these all corroded away on one edge once which gave similar symptoms. Or it may be a bad coil or HT wiring, a weak spark will give impression of rich running or it may be something else...  old motorbikes eh ? :D

Keith,

It ran rich when I bought it and was still the same when I replaced the Bosch ignition with a IIS ignition and TEK coils. I even moved the "bad" carb to the center cylinder and the problem followed the carb. I will look at the choke plunger area. The problem is only noticeable at idle. A little black smoke out the pipes and the plug is dirty. Adjusting the idle mixture screw has little effect. Going down the road the bike runs fine although it's possible it is still rich but you can't feel it.
