Blimey, that sounds like a unique 180. Have had loads of 180s and they all have/had some pretty powerful vibes. Nothing like a 180 twin, but could never be described as "smooth". A well set up 120 triple is very smooth.

Dunno, my 180 was very smooth- Keith will back me up on this- the crank was at exactly 180 degrees mind.  I think the aged rubber mounts on my bike might not be the best for isolating the vibes from the 120 degree rocking couple.

Never ridden a 120 Laverda so can't compare, but my 180 is pretty damn smooth. No intrusive vibrations at any speed.
There's a reason the 120s have rubber engine mounts.

I believe that high-frequency vibrations on the 120 (rocking couple?) can cause damage and discomfort. Cue rubber mounting to solve that problem.
I heard that is why Laverda went for 180 engines until the problem was sorted.

When my 120 is running well it is turbine-smooth pretty much all the way through the rev range.
Every machine has critical speeds (even turbines) and will self-excite at certain revolutions/frequency and vibrate.
